Invite people two steps: tell them about the event, then ask them later if they are coming. Pray first, pray during, pray after.
1. Tell them (by phone, email, letter, post-it, face-to-face)
- Enclose a flyer or fold-out invite to do the talking – you can download to print or email flyers for the main events from the ‘Events’ page. Don’t point people to this website – it will be information overload, won’t mean much to them and will lose the impact of your personal invitation.
- Ask them to come with you.
- Answer the questions they might have about the event (check out the website for more information about the events, or phone the contact in the fold-out). If you’re not sure, tell them you’ll find out – it’s a good reason to get back to them.
- Give them time to think about it.
- Give them the freedom to say ‘No’.
- Tell them you will get back to see if they can come – keep the ‘ball in your court’.
2. Ask them if they are coming
- Must be personal, face-to-face, or phone
- Take responsibility for your invitation by getting back to see if your potential guest can come.
- Taking the initiative to follow through on your invitation stops the embarrassment for them and you.
- Pray; then GO!
- Don’t put words in their mouth, especially reasons why they shouldn’t come – you invited them!
- Leave the door open for inviting them to future events – when we’ve heard that people have said ‘no’ to an invite, it’s almost always for a genuine reason and really just ’sorry, I can’t make it this time’.
PRAY first, PRAY during, PRAY after.
